After a painful breakup, Melissa decided to put the past behind her, including the beautiful ring her ex had given her. With a heavy heart, she walked into a prestigious jewelry store hoping to get rid of the piece and get some money in return. In the next ten minutes, nothing much happened. It was like the calm before the storm…. A couple of other people came into the store, had a look around or even bought something before leaving. There was not a single sign of the chaos that was about to break out.

Melissa was deep in thought when she heard the doorbell ring again, a sign that another customer had entered the store. She didn’t look up to see who it was this time, so she didn’t realize it was a police officer.

The officer approached Melissa and said firmly, “Ma’am, I’m afraid you have to accompany me to the police station.” Melissa couldn’t believe what she was hearing. “What, me, why, I didn’t do anything!” she exclaimed, bewildered, but the officer paid no attention to her protests and was relentless in his insistence.

“Please follow me to the car,” the agent ordered. Melissa laughed in disbelief; she didn’t even know what this was about. “At least tell me why, what do you think I’ve done? I’ve never been pulled over for anything in my life before,” she exclaimed, convinced that this must all be a big mistake. Spoiler: it wasn’t! Well… at least not in the way anyone could imagine.

After all, she knew she had done nothing wrong and she was sure that, once at the police station, they would be able to hear her side of the story and believe her.
