Sob uma placa de mármore removida pela primeira vez em centenas de anos, foi encontrada uma descoberta nunca antes vista.

A crônica do Novo Testamento nos diz que a tumba de Jesus foi construída perto do local onde ele foi crucificado. A estrutura deveria envolver tanto seu corpo quanto a cruz na qual ele morreu. Embora o local exato do sepultamento não tenha sido descoberto arqueologicamente, os historiadores agora têm certeza sobre a Igreja do Santo Sepulcro. Por volta de 326 d.C., o imperador romano Constantino, o Grande, construiu a primeira igreja no local para acomodar seu próprio sepultamento. Primeiro, Helena, a mãe de Constantino, recebeu a ordem de encontrar o local exato da tumba de Jesus, que havia sido encontrada três séculos antes. Ela acreditava tê-lo encontrado com a ajuda do bispo Eusébio.
