By Neala Broderick Published: Apr 7, 2026 Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority As the United States's 8th most diverse city , Charlotte, North Carolina, is an ideal destination for epicureans. Its Southern roots influence every corner of the culinary scene, even in Ethiopian, Vietnamese, and German-influenced kitchens. From the historic charm of Dilworth to mural-covered NoDa, the lively South End, and eclectic Plaza Midwood, each neighborhood adds its own flavor—together making Charlotte a feast for food-focused travelers. Check out the below locales for a Charlotte culinary trip your tastebuds will remember. 1. Manolo’s Bakery A Central Avenue institution since 1997, Manolo’s serves Latin pastries, empanadas, tamales, and an impressive variety of tres leches cakes. The Cheerwine flavor—North Carolina’s beloved cherry soda soaked into a feather-light cake—is a must. Next door you’ll find is The Changebaker Place, a new concept from the same team. Pop in for espresso and other coffee drinks, even more pastries, and new line of gelato. Andres Nino/La Galeria del Gato 2. Supperland Housed in a beautifully restored Mid-Century church, Supperland leans into hearty Southern cooking that comes to life on a 14-foot-long fire grill. Menus change seasonally, but dishes have included Berkshire pork can can, skillets of Carolina Gold rice, and orange meringue pie before moving over for to The Bar at Supperland for a nightcap. Kenty Chung 3. Abugida Ethiopian Cafe & Restaurant Head to Abugida for a menu full of herbaceous flavor. Try the kitfo, minced lean beef simmered in signature Ethiopian spices and herbed butter, then end your meal with Abugida’s Ethiopian coffee ceremony, a slow-paced, community-focused experience featuring three rounds of coffee and assorted bites. Want to bring some of these flavors home? Ethiopian grocery Balageru Mart is just a few blocks away. Abugida Ethiopian Cafe & Restaurant 4. Midwood Smokehouse With six locations across the Carolinas, Midwood Smokehouse serves up classics like burnt ends and pork, plus Texas-style brisket. Grab a bite at the original location in Plaza Midwood before enjoying a show at Snug Harbor or an espresso and Italian treat at Villani’s Bakery . Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority 5 . Sweet Lew’s Barbecue Operating out of a converted service station on Belmont Avenue, Sweet Lew’s cooks everything over wood in true Carolina tradition. Each wood-fired platter comes with its own regionally-inspired sauce (Alabama mayo for chicken, vinegar for pork, and mustard for brisket). Nearby, you’ll find some of Charlotte’s most unique late-night spots like Super Abari Game Bar and video game lounge Midnight Society Cafe . Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority 6. Lang Van Pho lovers should seek out this small Michelin Bib Gourmand-awarded Vietnamese restaurant in East Charlotte, where broths are made from rich, slow-simmered flank steak, beef marrow bones and aromatic herbs, and a more fragrant option of lemon grass curry and Bò Bía (jicama rolls). While you’re in this neck of the woods, get your art on at the Charlotte Museum of History or pick up an afternoon pottery class at Slow Burn Studio . Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority 7. The Goodyear House The Goodyear House features a laid-back daytime menu that includes favorites like the Goopy Burger (made with “goopy lettuce”–shredded iceberg tossed with special sauce) and vegan smoked cashew mac. Housed in a historic mill house at the core of North Davidson, or NoDa, this restaurant places you just steps away from the movie theater-turned-music venue, Neighborhood Theatre , and the city’s first and only churro bar, Ricko’s Churro Bar . Blake Pope/Field Day 8. The Olde Mecklenburg Brewery & Biergarten The Olde Mecklenburg Brewery & Biergarten has been brewing by the German Reinheitsgebot tradition since 2009, and the original location in the Lower South End (or LoSo) delivers the time-honored, Bavarian-style biergarten experience with jumbo pretzels, bier cheese, pork schnitzel, Düsseldorf-style Altbiers, and over eight acres of lively outdoor space. There are a handful of other breweries within walking distance— Protago nist Beer , Brewers at 4001 Yancey , Sugar Creek —should you decide to hop around. Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority 9. Copper Modern Indian Cuisine Copper , a modern Indian restaurant housed in a restored historic bungalow on East Boulevard, draws on Southern Indian spices with dishes like tawa roasted scallops and lamb kuzhambu. The menu is imaginative, with finishes like lemon crème and star anise dust. If there’s a wait for dinner, grab a glass of Côtes du Rhône at DTR just two blocks down. Find more in the nearby South End neighborhood, where the Rail Trail ’s 3.5-mile greenway is lined with restaurants, breweries, shops, and public art.
