After a painful breakup, Melissa decided to put the past behind her, including the beautiful ring her ex had given her. With a heavy heart, she walked into a prestigious jewelry store hoping to get rid of the piece and get some money in return. However, when the jeweler examined it closely, her eyes widened in disbelief.

In the next ten minutes, nothing much happened. It was like the calm before the storm…. A couple of other people came into the store, had a look around or even bought something before leaving. There was not a single sign of the chaos that was about to break out.

Melissa was deep in thought when she heard the doorbell ring again, a sign that another customer had entered the store. She didn’t look up to see who it was this time, so she didn’t realize it was a police officer.

Suddenly, Melissa heard Mr. Harris say, “Thank you so much for coming so quickly…. that’s her right there!” as he pointed directly at her. Surprised and bewildered, Melissa didn’t understand what was happening for a moment, until she finally noticed the man in a police suit.

The officer approached Melissa and said firmly, “Ma’am, I’m afraid you have to accompany me to the police station.” Melissa couldn’t believe what she was hearing. “What, me, why, I didn’t do anything!” she exclaimed, bewildered, but the officer paid no attention to her protests and was relentless in his insistence.

“Please follow me to the car,” the agent ordered. Melissa laughed in disbelief; she didn’t even know what this was about. “At least tell me why, what do you think I’ve done? I’ve never been pulled over for anything in my life before,” she exclaimed, convinced that this must all be a big mistake. Spoiler: it wasn’t! Well… at least not in the way anyone could imagine.

“Ma’am, you can cooperate or I will have to force you to come with me,” the agent warned firmly. Melissa realized that he was serious and, with no other options, she decided to do as he asked. After all, she knew she had done nothing wrong and she was sure that, once at the police station, they would be able to hear her side of the story and believe her.

“And just to be clear, I’m not arresting you…yet. I’m just taking you to the police station to ask you a few questions,” the officer explained. “If you can prove you’ve done nothing wrong, we’ll let you go. But you’ll have to convince all of us if you want that to happen.”

Embarrassment washed over her; the people outside had seen her and probably thought she was a thief. She wiped her tears and tried to calm herself, but found it difficult, as she still had no idea what was happening.

Suddenly, the officer said, “We’re here,” and turned off the car’s engine. Melissa looked out the window and saw that they were at the police station. Before she could react, the officer got out of the vehicle, opened her door and firmly indicated, “Follow me.”
