Russell Westbrook Says He Aims To Become A Billionaire 'Sooner Than Later' - AfroTech | AfroTech Latest Briefing Events Conference ▾ Get Tickets Conference Site Partner App Future 50 Insider Newsletter Get Tickets Business Shanique Yates May 17, 2023 2 min Russell Westbrook Says He Aims To Become A Billionaire 'Sooner Than Later' Photo Credit: Justin Ford share NBA player Russell Westbrook has billionaire dreams, and he isn’t letting up until he achieves his goal. According to Forbes, the superstar is currently the 14th highest-paid athlete in the league, but he’s coming for more. Big Aspirations “I want to be a billionaire,” Westbrook told the outlet. “Sooner than later.” View this post on Instagram A post shared by Russell Westbrook (@russwest44) At 34 years old, he always manages to tap into the spaces he is most passionate about. For example, his love for fashion is the driving force behind his streetwear brand, Honor The Gift, which was launched in 2017. Since its debut, the label has now reportedly made its way into more than 300 retail stores across the world and opened its flagship store in Los Angeles, CA. In 2022, the company made a total revenue of $5.7 million, with sales that were up 75% from the previous year, the outlet reports. Westbrook's Investments What’s more, he has also invested in various industries that include food, drinks, muscle recovery, and even social media. The companies that he’s placed his money behind include Triller, Magic Spoon, Pizzana, and more. “Since I’ve been in the league, I’ve been trying to find my niche,” Westbrook explained. Additionally, at one point he acquired minority ownership stakes in five Southern California auto dealerships before selling his stakes in 2022 for a reported $15 million. Russell Westbrook Enterprises Now, he aims to continue building Russell Westbrook Enterprises (RWE). The imprint is all about making an impact in his community, something that has always been a cause near and dear to his heart. “My mantra is ‘Why not?’ I live by that,” Westbrook recalled. “It took 75 years for somebody to average a triple-double. Well, I did it four times.” As reported by AfroTech, his digital advertising business, RW Digital, was launched in 2022 and will continue to specialize in helping brands reach diverse audiences. Fulfilling His Mission Now, as his quest to become a billionaire continues, Westbrook wants to stay in the car realm of things by purchasing an auto parts maker. “It’s not a sexy business by any means, but it’s a very lucrative business that grows exponentially,” he said. “It clicked for me in my brain. It’s like, non-sexy is sexy for me.” If Westbrook reaches his goal of becoming a billionaire, he will join only three other athletes (all Black) whom have achieved billionaire status, including Michael Jordan, LeBron James, and Tiger Woods. share Shanique Yates Shanique Liz Yates is an Atlanta-based journalist and content creator with a passion for storytelling on a range of topics that include business, culture, entertainment, and news.
